Ride dates submitted will normally be live within 24 hours (there is manual intervention)

The site only lists ride dates and brief comments (other than in exceptional circumstances) for upcoming rides and does not have Journals for uncompleted rides ... they can be added to the Journals listing when the ride (and journal) is completed.

It's partly practicality with the way the site works (the ride dates fall off the "Current Rides" listing when they have ended, although they remain in the archive) - and also to present complete blogs/journals rather than work in progress (which may remain work in progress .. or the ride doesn't happen ... or doesn't get submitted for the Journals library ... or has broken links )

When you do send your post-ride blog/journal please remember that the Cycle : End-to-End site links to your journal where it's hosted - so you need to ensure that it remains live for the foreseeable future (and if it's in a "blogging" style of site that the indexing doesn't move the content away from the precise link you have supplied)

As an alternative the Cycle : E2E site can host Journals if they are in  .pdf format - that means that they are part of the main site and not external links.   If you can't create a pdf I can do that from most PC based software programs.

Finally - you may like to add a link to any blog or website pointing to Cycle : End-to-End
www.cycle-endtoend.org.uk  (i.e. just the main name - NOT the long string URL with ID Nos etc)

Cycle : End-to-End is built using the Joomla! Content Management System, enabling it to be added to and amended very easily . . as well as having an enormous range of features that can be incorporated - e.g. the Journal library, photo-galleries, banner links etc. - possibilities are almost endless.

The Journals - are almost all links to external websites, clicking a link should display the relevant Journal author's own work*    That's the simplest way to do it - it is also possible to host content for Journals on this website as a pdf file . . . if you have a Journal and don't know how to publish it on the Internet just ask!

The structure of the site has been designed to make it clear and simple to navigate - easy to find the resources etc.  The Journal Library is searchable as is the remainder of the site.

It should display correctly in most web-browsers on computers, tablets and smartphones - the site has been created and tested using, primarily, Firefox - it's also been tested with Internet Explorer/Edge, Safari & Chrome.

There is an automated translation module (at the foot of most pages)   The translation is supplied by Google and is "as is" - no responsibility for accuracy of content or any unfortunate or offensive translations.

* some of these links may be broken, see the note on the Home page.

I'm a keen cyclist (and bike fettler) and live in Stratford-upon-Avon - and as of June 2010 I'm a "double end-to-ender" - JOGLE in 2005, LEJOG in 2010 (both unsupported)

The two photographs are taken at exactly the same point at the northern end of Glencoe - the one on the left in 2005 riding N-S and on the right in 2010 riding S-N (with the same bike and the same shorts)

Having drifted away from cycling as a result of : going to work, driving a car, getting married, children .... I eventually got back to cycling again

The return to cycling in about 1999 was precipitated by the need to rehabilitate a damaged knee - after 18 months of discomfort and two arthroscopies the consultant recommended cyclng as a non-impact exercise, undertaken sitting down (most of the time) with a rotary action for the knee ... and good cardio-vascular exercise too.  In 2014 I contracted cancer which resulted in some pretty major surgery at the end of that year - but I'm still here!

After a few short rides I became more adventurous and went out with the local cycling group, Shakespokes.  Cycling holidays followed, riding with the CTC, Audax events and being involved in the founding of Heart of England Cycling Club in 2015 - and riding the velodrome track (strictly for fun) ... as well as acquisition of more bikes (current tally in December 2024 is just 4, it did hit a peak of 16 at one time)

Between 2005 and 2016 I organised, as a volunteer, cycle events to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support - the MacRide Events, in Warwickshire.  35 events and a net total of just over £800,000 raised - and over 2,000 jerseys sold (see pic above)

Having retired and gone back to work 2 or 3 times - including a 3 year stint managing (well, doing everything as it was just me) a local bike shop for the absentee owner I'm now fully retired and my time is spent cycling, running a micro-business servicing and repairing bikes, woodworking and generally trying to enjoy life.

I first cycled the end-to-end (JOGLE) in 2005, an end-to-end in France (Calais - Montpellier) in 2008 and LEJOG in 2010 ... my E2E rides : Rob & Joe's JOGLE 2005 is No 176 and Rob & Jon's LEJOG 2010 is No 529 in the listings.  Our French trip, Wine-ding Down Through France is also in The Journals.

Since 2012 I have organised a cycling club overseas tour each year - visiting France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland and Germany.

There is another website, link on the right, that has some more about me, my bikes and other interests and includes a story about The Great Escape . . .

Map iconIf you've found your way here you must be interested in cycling the "end-to-end" - the classic ride from Land's End to John O'Groats (LEJOG) - or any of the various flavours of the ride ... the JOGLE (John O'Groats to Land's End), or the various corner-to-corner options.

Having completed the ride (JOGLE, the downhill version - not reallysmiley) in 2005 we produced a Journal - Rob & Joe's JOGLE - which has, to our amazement, become a popular read so much so that we have made it available (with the route maps) on a DVD/CD from the ONLINE SHOP

There has always been a lot of interest in the ride and several attempts at creating a resource for would-be end-to-enders .... this is my contribution which has been precipitated by the, apparent, demise of the Ultimate Links website.

The plan is to create a website that not only lists all the ride journals but also adds more information . . . do please keep coming back to the site as I'll be adding more content.

Finally - when you ride YOUR E2E don't forget to list it on the calendar and then send a link to your journal!

This site was created as a labour of love in 2009.  The usage levels and time involved have grown far larger and much more quickly than I anticipated.  I make no apology for the click-through banners that appear on some pages to link to the ONLINE SHOP that creates a very small amount of revenue.

At the risk of appearing to be trumpet-blowing .... these are just a few of the comments made by riders since Cycle - End to End was established :

BIG Thanks to Rob from cycle-endtoend.org.uk for his very comprehensive disc of his JOGLE and LEJOG. If you're planning a JOGLE or LEJOG, I have found the information contained on the disc extremely interesting, inspiring and most of all, really helpful.  MS, Hampshire

What a brilliant and long overdue site.   KH, Brighton

Keep up the good work – it's an amazing job you do.  MJ, Shipston-on-Stour

Thanks for your efforts - great site.  PM, Penzance

The site is great - lots of useful info and up-to-date which is ideal. Thanks for a great job. JC

Great site that you are running, keep it up it's very much appreciated.  AG

... a personal message via a cycling forum :    Dear Rob,   Although you do not know me you have inspired me, and I thought I would say thank you now while I am in the comfort and warmth of my home!   I returned to cycling last year and did the MacRide for the first time last September. This year I intend to cycle "Side to Side" in April and LEJOG in July.   Any way I just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration.  Terry

. . .  don't forget that it's the riders submitting their details, journals, experiences and establishment suggestions that makes the site tick.
